Jaws
Last updated 3 September 2026
Jaws works without an account, and without one your practice history never leaves your phone. If you choose to make an account, that history is stored on our servers so it follows you between devices. Nothing is sold, nothing is shared with advertisers, and nothing is used to track you across other apps.
The rest of this page is the detail behind that, because App Review and app-store privacy labels ask specific questions.
Your account — only if you make one. Signing in is optional; the app is fully usable without it. Until you sign in there is no account record at all — no email address, no name, and no practice history on our servers. The usage analytics described below still apply to a guest, but carry no account id. If you do sign in, the record is an internal user id, your email address, a display name if you gave one, and which method you signed in with — email and password, Google, or Apple. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your address, we receive Apple's private relay address and never see the real one. Passwords are never visible to us; email sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, which stores them hashed.
Your practice data. Every finished session or exercise is recorded — which one, when, how many seconds, and the tension rating if you gave one — along with your settings (reminders on or off, how many per day, spoken-cue preferences) and a derived summary such as your current streak. This is what makes the streak and history work, and it is what syncs. History is capped at the most recent 500 entries.
Usage analytics. Jaws uses Firebase Analytics to see whether the app actually works — which screens are opened, whether a session that starts gets finished, where people stop, and whether reminders get switched on. These events are tied to your account id once you have one; before that they are not tied to any identifier of yours. We do not log what you do frame by frame, and we do not record anything you type.
Firebase Analytics also collects a standard set of technical fields on our behalf: an app instance identifier, device model, operating system version, app version, and an approximate country derived from the IP address. It does not use the advertising identifier — Jaws contains no advertising SDK and never asks for tracking permission, because it does not track you.
All of it is held by Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore and Google Analytics for Firebase), acting as our processor, on servers in the United States. Google does not receive it for its own advertising purposes. Google's handling is described in the Firebase Privacy and Security documentation.
A copy of your history and settings also stays in your device's own local storage, so the app works with no connection. The device copy is the one the app reads; the server copy is what restores it on a new device.
No advertising and no ad identifiers. No tracking across other apps or websites, and no ATT prompt because there is nothing to ask about. Nothing sold or shared with data brokers. No location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone access. No purchases. No cookies — there is no web view. No crash-reporting SDK.
If you turn on reminders, Jaws schedules them on your device using the operating system's local notification scheduler. There is no push server, no device token is registered with us, and no notification is ever sent from the internet. Turning reminders off in the app cancels every one of them.
Open Profile:
Analytics events already recorded are not tied to your email or name and expire on Firebase's own retention schedule. If you want them purged sooner, email the address below with the account you used and we will do it.
Jaws is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Regulations such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights of access, correction, deletion and portability over personal data held about you. The app covers deletion directly — Delete account in Profile does the whole thing without asking us. For a copy of what is stored, a correction, or anything else, email the address below from the account's own email and we will answer within 30 days. We do not sell personal information, and we never have.
If what Jaws collects changes, this page is updated before that version ships, and the change is described in the release notes. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
